All Smiles

Have I ever told you how much I love Korea??

This week has been really cool. We started teaching a Korean class on the army base once a week. We are teaching survival Korean to members, and invited them to bring nonmember friends as well. It then leads into a Book of Mormon class so they can have both Korean and spiritual learning. It is very much like our English class that we teach to Koreans, and we are excited to see what will happen! We are serving with a senior couple, Elder and Sister Ulvestead. They are so sweet and wonderful, and I don't have a lot to say except we love them! This week we visited a less active, who was very strong for nearly 10 years until she got offended by a member and never came back. It was very interesting talking to her. She told us of all the blessings she received from the church, the Book of Mormon, and how happy it made her. But when we asked her to come back, she said she will never come back. As we talked, it became obvious that she still believed it was true but couldn't get past her hurt feelings. Elder Bednar gives a wonderful talk on this subject, and reminds us that being offended is a choice. He very bluntly reminds us all that if we choose to be offended and leave the church, we are giving up eternal life and exaltation for ourselves, and very possibly for generations to follow. The character of Christ is loving and forgiving. We should all be the same. It's just so sad to see what damage a grudge can cause an individual. Like Nike says (almost) Just don't do it. Don't get offended and love Jesus Christ. It's so simple and wonderful.

We had an incredibly special experience this week. On Thursday we went with YuShi to meet with bishop and receive her first temple recommend. The bishop was a little nervous giving the interview in English (she is from China and speaks very little Korean but is great at English) so we sat in as interpreters if necessary. It was very special, and she was almost in tears as he handed her her very own recommend. As we left, she asked if we could go immediately to the temple. We called and made an appointment for Saturday morning. We showed her familysearch.org and told her about the blessings she could bring her family. On Saturday, we all went to the temple together. She had never seen a temple before, and was in awe as we walked onto the grounds. In the temple, the spirit was so strong. She is so pure and just wanted to soak everything in. The temple workers were wonderful, and one told us about her experience taking her mothers name through the temple and how she could feel her mother there as the ordinances were performed. It was incredible. Afterwards, we walked around on the ground for awhile, and then talked a little more about blessings that come from the temple. She played "I know that my Redeemer lives" and we were all in tears. It's hard to describe just how special it all was. Growing up in Utah, I sometimes took for granted having the temple so near. I grew up with it in my sights, having that sacred house be my goal, and I was blessed to be able to attend many times. But going to the temple with someone who has never seen one before puts it into a new perspective. She was very aware that she was about to enter the house of God, and would make salvation possible for someone she has never met. She was very aware of the spirit that surrounds the temple in a way that doesn't really exist anywhere else on earth. She didn't rush or complain about wet hair. She helped me realize all of the blessings, big and small, that can be ours through faithful temple service. When we asked her if she had time to go to the temple that morning she said something that was very powerful and I hope I never forget. She said, "I will make whatever time I need to. There is nothing more important that going to the temple." She was willing to make any sacrifice necessary to receive those blessings. It gave me a renewed determination to remember just how important the temple is in our lives, and to make any sacrifices necessary in order to attend.

This has been an incredible week. It's hard to describe in words just what goes on here every single day. We were blessed to have a zone conference with Elder Whiting and his wife on Friday, and then another meeting with Brother and Sister Oscarson and Brother and Sister Burton on Saturday. They talked about the power of missionary work to those who are called full time, how to access that power and how to become favored of the Lord. So much of it focused on our attitude. He compared 1 Nephi 17:20 and 1 Nephi 17:2. They are both talking about the same situation, but only one views it from the perspective of the Lord. They shared a quote which I LOVE by Elder Holland. "Salvation is not a cheap experience. Why would it be easy for us when it was never, ever easy for him." Life will have its ups and downs, but as we rely on the Lord and follow his footsteps, we can find peace and joy. We can live with our Savior Jesus Christ again. We can bathe his feet in our tears and thank him for making it all possible. All we have to do is Enjoy to the end! attitude :)

I love this work. I love being a missionary and wearing Jesus Christ's name every single day. It is the first thing people notice about us, and what an honor that is! This is his true gospel, restored through the prophet Joseph Smith. Oh how blessed we are to have that knowledge, and how blessed are we that we can share that joy with others every single day?! I love you all, thank you for your examples! Please share any missionary moments that you see. I love reading all of them. Have a wonderful week!

Happy Birthday Buddha!

The Blue house (where the president lives) and pretty flowers and decorations that are all over the city for Buddha's birthday.
A few more pictures. We dressed up like guards at the palace, and as we were taking pictures, a whole bunch of Chinese tourists ran over and started taking pictures with us. They all now have a picture of the Book of Mormon. :)

HAPPY EASTER!

This week has been really fun. We were able to spend our p-day with Han Mi Hyang. We went hiking, explored a palace, and visited the Blue house again. It was so much fun! She is doing great and is really progressing in the gospel. Tuesday we decided to text Yun Joo, who we haven't heard from in about a month. 30 seconds later she called us and said she wanted to meet that day. The power of follow-up, as discussed in conference, is remarkable. This week they had a national tragedy occur in Korea. A cruise ship sunk during it's trip, and most of it's passengers were high school students. Some were rescued, some were found too late, and most of them haven't been found yet. It has been really interesting. Because of this tragedy, the nation has come together in unity and prayer, seeking any way to save those people. Many people who claimed to have no belief in God have been praying daily, and ask us why God would let this happen. We have had many opportunities to talk about God, His plan, and agency to those who desperately need the message at this time. Lee Hyun is doing great! She was really upset about the accident. We were able to have a lesson all about the Atonement of Christ and how through him all things can be made right. We showed a mormon message about 'Chris Williams" which I highly recommend if it is online. His family was hit by a drunk driver and it tells about him turning to Christ to overcome that experience. It was one of the most powerful lessons we have had. She is progressing so well. We love her. Ein Bo Nah is also doing great. She told us that after she set a date for baptism, it became must easier to receive answers to prayers and keep commandments. So we are going to set a date to prepare for the temple to renew that desire she had before. We are very excited for her.

Yesterday was Easter, which is Korean is translated to be 'the season of Resurrection' which I like a lot more. It helps us remember the reason we celebrate and who we worship, who we owe everything to. It is amazing that the tragedy of this event here in Korea occurred so near Easter, the day that Christ overcame death for all of us. There is so much hope in this knowledge, and it brings light  into even the darkest hearts. We didn't have a special program at church, but afterwards we were able to attend the baptism of an adorable 21 year old girl. She has wanted to be baptized for a long time but her parents opposed. Finally, they gave their permission, and she was baptized by her boyfriend who was baptized several years ago (the same one that baptized his friend a few weeks ago). They are incredible and we are very thankful for their example and reminder of the importance of having good friends to influence our lives.

So the miracles with Lee Sang Soo keep coming. He is the man we met on the bus/street last week. Well, we set up an appointment to meet near President Christensen's home at 7, but we didn't have his phone number to confirm. So we went and waited, hoping he would come. At 7:30, we were pretty sure he wasn't coming but decided to pray to help him remember and contact us again. I got a feeling that we needed to walk through the tunnel nearby to the bus stop we had originally met him. It seemed silly, but we decided to go. On the way we talked to a few people, trying to figure out why we were there. When we arrived I got the feeling that we should go back. I was thoroughly confused, and my companion was probably questioning my sanity when I announced 'okay, now we need to go back." We decided to say hi to President and Sister Christensen before heading home, so we rang their doorbell. At that exact moment, a man came running up the driveway and guess who it was? He apologized for being late (it was 8:00 now). He had forgotten our appointment, but about 20 minutes earlier he suddenly remembered and ran from his home in hopes we would still be there. We were able to go in and have a lesson with him and Sister Christensen, and it was awesome! He asked if he could take a Book of Mormon home and read it. We of course agreed and will meet him again on Wed. It was incredible. The time that he 'suddenly remembered' coincided perfectly with the time that we prayed and acted on the promptings. The Lord has something in store for this man, and keeps working miracles in order for us to meet. It is very humbling to see and feel the love that the Lord has for this man. We are so blessed to be his hands on this earth.

We just got a new bishop a few weeks ago on our ward, as well as a ward mission leader. We wanted them to feel support from the missionaries (all 14 of us) so we wrote them notes on hearts and put them on their door. Well, as we were doing the bishops door we heard a voice and bishop suddenly emerged from a different door. He was a very good sport, kindly let us know that we were decorating the wrong door (not embarrassing at all) and still acted surprised when we finished. He has a lot of enthusiasm for missionary work and we are very excited to work with him.

Today we were texting a scripture to some investigators on the subway. I proofread my message in Korean, and the lady next to me was shocked and asked if I actually understood. I said yes, and sadly she had to leave, but we quickly told her who we were and asked if she would like to meet again. Her response is one missionaries rarely hear, yet its the most amazing. She said "I have a lot of interest. Of course I want to meet again!" Miracle. Then today as I was writing this email, a man and his family from Hawaii and came over for some help. They told us that since we were mormon missionaries, they know they could ask us and we would be happy to help them. Sometimes we forget that to the world, we truly do represent the Lord and His church every moment of everyday. We may be the only contact people have with the church or Christ in this life. It is a great responsibility yet the greatest experience in the world. Also for all the women in the family and world, I heard an amazing talk from Elder Holland and recommend it to all of you. I think it's called "Because she is a Mother". I would love to hear your thoughts, but it made me think of all of you! Well that sums up this week. It has been incredible, full of miracles, touched hearts, and the Savior. I know this church is true with all my heart. I know that our Savior lives, that nearly 2,000 years ago he broke the bands of death. He walked the lonely path so none of us ever have to do so alone. He is our Savior, Redeemer, and friend. This knowledge is what sustains us during the best and worst of times. And nothing can bring greater joy or satisfaction than seeing this knowledge being accepted by someone for the very first time, or helping them remember what they once knew. I cannot express the joy I feel here, I can only say thank you for supporting me, and thanks to my Heavenly Father for allowing me this opportunity. Have a wonderful week, I love you all!

Conference Powerhouse

This week we were able to watch conference. Holy cow. Powerhouse meetings! I LOVED the talk about every member obtaining and studying and applying Preach My Gospel! It is the best manual ever, and the possibilities of missionary work taking OFF are endless. Oh man, we were all super excited, and I encourage all of you to study it as well as The Power of Everyday Missionaries! Again, I have one at home that anyone is welcome to read. I of course thought of all of you when they told the three most important ways to protect and strengthen our families: 1- family prayer EVERYDAY 2- family scripture study EVERYDAY 3-family home evening EVERY WEEK! I listened to a talk by Elder Bednar this week about family home evenings in his home. They were often interrupted by complaints of "he is touching me" "he is breathing my air" and "make him stop looking at me!" Prayers were interrupted by poking and giggling, and they wondered if it was making any difference. But he went on to say how more importantly than how it goes, is the consistency of it happening all the time. Consistency is what our family will remember. So like Sister Reeves said, if your house is messy and the kids never change out of pajamas (this of course doesn't refer to any of us, who have the highest standard of cleanliness, hygiene, and shun pajamas in public..or something..) but they know you love they Lord, then you are doing what the Lord wants you to do. There was a huge focus on families, especially through family history work! I encourage you to all try and find time to do that (HINT HINT - I PROMISE THIS WILL HELP YOU IN YOUR LIVES AND ON MISSIONS). Even if it is a little each week, we can make a difference. They also followed up on the challenge to pray and refer one person to the missionaries. I encourage you all to continue or begin that challenge, and see the blessings that come into your life and the lives of those around you!

We had an amazing miracle this week. We were on the bus early one morning to head to President's house for interviews. The man next to us asked if we were carrying a "Book of Mormon". We began to talk, and he said he met missionaries when he was in high school but stopped. He told us that the Book of Mormon was the most important book in the world and would bring us the greatest happiness. We asked if we could give him one and meet again, but he said "Next time we meet I'll learn more." He got our number, but left without giving us his name or number. The rest of the day went a bit strange. District meeting went longer than usual and we had to push back an appointment. It was with Brother Kim Hyung Suok, so we had a female member with us. Our next appointment suddenly cancelled so we had dinner with the member instead. As we were heading to the subway a man suddenly called "hello" as he passed us. We froze, turned, and saw that it was the same man we had met earlier that day. Slightly shocked, he asked if we had time to meet. Since we had the member with us, we were able to go into a nearby cafe and talk. It turns out he decided to check out our church again about a month earlier, but went when it was closed and hasn't gone back. He said all he could think about all day was how he needed to call us and meet again to learn more. Here are the 'coincidences' that led to our meeting. We are never at President's house that early, but it was a special occasion. We accidentally took the wrong bus that he was riding that day. Our first appointment was pushed back and our other appointment cancelled, so we were still in that area with a female member. He decided to take a taxi home from work that day, something he had only done once before in several years. And all of this led to us meeting again on the street. The meeting was wonderful and we will meet again this week. We all left, slightly awestruck at the all-knowing God who has put everything into place for each of his children. The member who was with us kept turning and saying "I just witnessed a miracle didn't I?" We were all very humbled, and had a very powerful testimony builder that God knows every one of us by name and he is always willing to help if we just ask.

I love being here in Korea so much. This is the greatest work in the world, among the greatest people! I wouldn't trade this experience for anything in the world. This is truly the Lord's work, and when we do it side by side with him there is nothing that can stand in the way. Like D&C states, "No unhallowed hand can stop the work!" I know that is true both here and at home. Thank you for all you are doing and please continue to seek out those missionary moments all around you. I want to hear all about them. This is the Lord's true church on earth, and it is our duty to share it. And what a wonderful duty it is!! I love you all, have a great week!

The Universal Language is Actually....Soap on a Stick??

Here's some pictures! Our old house during the move, an American flag flying in the distance which was awesome, and the public area where we usually email! They move people out of homes through the window and down this ramp instead of multiple trips down the stairs. Super cool! And this is the soap generally found in public restrooms. Did anyone order the bar of soap on a stick?

April Already??

Well this week has been really good and full of amazing people. We met with Lee Hyun twice this week. She loves reading from the Book of Mormon, and said she is starting to feel more when learning about God. She isn't certain if she knows he is real, but she said there is something in her that seems to believe he is. It is so exciting to see the light start coming into her life, and she is progressing so well! Oh man we love her so much. Han Mi Hyang is wonderful. Since her husband got baptized only a few weeks ago, he has been meeting with the elders and she's been meeting with sisters for several months. Meeting them separately is a little strange, so they will start meeting together with the elders, but we will still meet with her once a week. She is always very concerned about us and takes very good care of us. Ein Bo Nah is AWESOME! She understands things so well, and is feeling more of a desire to act. This week we talked about the Book of Mormon, and showed 'The Testimony of the Book of Mormon' mormon message by Elder Holland. I'm not sure if it is on lds.org or not, but I HIGHLY recommend it. It is one of the most powerful testimonies I have ever heard of the Book of Mormon. It really touched her and she asked if we would assign her somewhere to read this week. It was awesome! We also met with a new man this week. His name is Kim Hyung Sok and has more energy than anyone person ever. We went with a member (we can't meet with men unless another woman is present). He has a lot of interest in learning more, but we aren't sure about action yet. We will probably introduce him to Elders instead but it was the most..energetic...lesson I have ever had.

This week we had dinner with the Jones family. The father is a convert to the church, and his non-member parents were in town visiting so they joined us. They have 4 adorable kids, and we met their oldest daughter a few weeks ago during our Question and Answer panel. The father told us about his conversion into the church. He said he didn't get to know the elders very well, and moved shortly after his baptism. Since then, he has remained faithful and active, served in the bishopric and as young mens president, all his children are active, they are sealed in the temple, and are in the process of bringing 2,500 family names to the temple. Those missionaries may never know the impact that they had on his life and family, so he wanted to share and thank us for our efforts. He reminded us we may never see the lives that are blessed as we serve, but we are making a difference. It was a wonderful reminder and they are such a great family. We are trying to work with the mom to get a group of women together to go on splits and teach them how to do missionary work. We were very grateful to meet them, and see how the gospel can truly change thousands of lives forever. With so much focus on member missionary work lately, I just want to remind all of you that you can and will make a difference. It may seem like efforts are rejected and opportunities to share are few. But I promise as you pray for those missionary moments, they will come. We succeed when we invite, that's all we are asked to do, and the Lord will help us in our efforts.

I love all of you so much. Thank you for your wonderful examples to me. I am so proud to come from a family full of faithful members who are touching so many lives for good. You strengthen me more than you can know, and I love you all so much! Have a wonderful week! :)

8 MONTHS!

This week has been really good. We were able to go to a Museum of Korean History on P-day which was fascinating. The history of this country is already crazy, how quickly they were able to rebuild and thrive after the Korean War. But what was the coolest, is that so much of the history still exists here. As a missionary, you go pretty much everyone in the city and talk to pretty much every kind of person you can imagine. There are people here who remember when Japan occupied the nation, and others who haven't had to work for anything. It's incredible walking through a museum of history that is still being lived today. This is the coolest place in the world. While looking for a house, we also accidentally found the "Blue House" which is where the Korean president lives. There were security guards everywhere, but after they saw we were missionaries they asked us lots of questions and we had quite a fun conversation.

The process of finding homes is somewhat more complex when you don't have technology to assist you. We have a giant map, some addresses, and then we go out into one of the most populated cities in the world and look for it. This becomes even more fun when the address system in Korea changes overnight in order to make things 'easier' and now none of the addresses you have match what is now on the buildings. And somehow, remarkably, we have always been able to find the home that we are looking for. It's one of those simple and yet remarkably huge miracles that we see everyday. This week we met with Lee Hyun and her boys. We played exercise Simon Says, and then talked to her about receiving answers to prayer. She said everything we say makes sense, but she just hasn't felt it yet. She also told us her original hope was that we would come teach English to her boys, but now she feels like we can really help her to know God and wants to continue meeting after the English program ends, so we are very excited. She has such a pure heart, and so much desire to know. She just needs the spiritual confirmation that it is true. We met with another girl named Han Surl Gee, who also really wants to know if there is a God, She asked us to say how we came to know God. Afterwards, she said, "I want to feel that same way so bad. Please help me know if God is real." We were very happy to set up a return appointment. Han Mi Hyang is still doing great. This week we talked about ask, seek, and knock. She told us that a lot of times, answers to our prayers can be answered by science. So we showed her Alma 30:44 and D&C 88: 40-45. She started laughing, and agreed that it makes sense since he created science as well. Ein Bo Nah is awesome! We were able to talk more about prayer with her as well, and how it can be more meaningful. We made the comment that we should pray WITH God and not TO him. We read Enos, and she said she was so excited to learn about it, and asked if she could stay at the church and study more after we left. We said that would be great! She came to church yesterday and stayed for all of it which was very exciting.

Yesterday was ward conference. In this ward, they give out towels every ward conference that has the date and a cute quote printed on it to the entire ward. I will have to send a picture next time. They are so cute. Also, Yushi, the recent convert from China, said her parents are coming to visit this week. We will have FHE next Monday, and she is going to try to bring them which will be so fun, since they aren't members and haven't had a lot of exposure to the church since they live in China. This work is so amazing. It is spreading all over the world more quickly and in more ways than we can imagine. I am so very grateful to be a part of it. It's so crazy to think that I was entered the MTC 8 months ago exactly. Time is so short, and there is so much to do. And if we ask, the Lord will guide us every step of the way. I love this gospel, I love my Savior and I know that the power of his Atonement can wash away anything and everything as we come unto Him. I love you all! Please let me know of any missionary moments, in or out of the home. Have a wonderful week,

"We become what we want to be by consistently being what we want to become each day."
       --Elder Richard G. Scott

I love Korea

This week has been really good. Funny moment, the bishop and his wife held a special FHE for the missionaries on Monday night. We had a delicious meal, had some missionary training, and then they wanted to play a game with everyone. They chose kick the can which seems pretty harmless. However, about 15 seconds after we started, one elder ran up and kicked the can (which was an empty bottle of orange juice) and it hit his companion right in the eye. It split his eyelid open pretty bad, and we had to stop and go buy some first aid supplies and get his face cleaned up. After that, they decided more games would be fun, so we played freeze tag for awhile with no casualties! We all felt bad, but it was super funny and kind of typical, and it was a really fun night.

We are continuing to meet with Han Mi Hyang, who is doing so good. Last time she told us about how her prayers have changed from constantly asking for blessings, to now seeing the good in every moment and thanking Heavenly Father. She said it helps her to remember to be happy now, instead of saying "I will be happy when..." She has a lot of wisdom, and we always learn so much when we meet her. Hopefully she is learning a lot too! Hyun Lee is wonderful! Her kids are so cute. Their mom wants them to keep up their English, and also learn something. So this week we played charades, acting out explorers from history like Neil Armstrong (explored the moon) and Christopher Columbus. Then we taught the restoration. She had a lot of questions, and told us about things she would like our help with in her life. She told us she would like to meet more often "so I can keep learning more about this wonderful message", so we will meet twice a week. It's really exciting, and we love her! She is such a sincere, honest seeker of truth and we love her. We also met with Kim Joo Sook this week, which was fun because she hasn't been able to meet lately. We talked about the restoration, and she understands it perfectly. She knows she will gain faith by acting, but doesn't really want to act yet. So we are working on that  with her. Ein Bo Nah is wonderful. There is such a good feeling everytime we meet, and she is really making changes which is so exciting to see.

The other day we had a lady run over to us really excited. She saw missionaries near her school when she was in elementary school, and had been curious ever since. She will be busy for a while, but gave us her number and told us to call so we can meet. Another woman had very little interest when we started talking at a stoplight. But  as we talked about the Book of Mormon and Joseph Smith, she started opening up a lot. By the end, she asked for a Book of Mormon and told us that she wants to read it. It was really cool to see the spirit start  softening her heart. We have met some other awesome people on the street as well, and it's just amazing how prepared people are everywhere when we are willing to open our mouths and talk to them!

This transfer we have decided to have a temple focus in all that we do. We want to help recent converts, less actives, and investigators realize that is our goal and baptism opens the door for other wonderful blessings. It's been really cool so far and we are excited to see how it goes. We are also going to do a lot of less active work this transfer in an area called 삼청 Samcheong. The wards combined a few years ago, and lots of people have been lost. So we have decided to SAVE SAMCHEONG! It is a very big task, but we are so excited! Whenever we do our best to help those who were already found but have been lost, Heavenly Father always blesses us by helping us find others who have not yet been found but want to be. It's an exciting time to be here and everything is just amazing. Sister Thomas and I have a very similar vision of what we want to see happen here and in our missions in general. Working with her has been such a blessing, and we are so excited!

That pretty much sums up our week. It has been awesome and busy and tiring and wonderful. This is truly the Lord's work, and he is at the head of it. Sometimes things get a little overwhelming and no one wants to listen, but like it says in D&C 10: 43, He knows what's going on and the work will progress. It's such an exciting time to be a missionary and a member. This week we shared a message with an English branch family, and we talked about what it meant to be on the earth right now. #1 we chose to follow Christ, from the very beginning we wanted to follow him and his example. We were faithful followers, and had the faith to come to earth. #2 The Lord has a lot of trust in us, and has also given us a great responsibility. If he didn't want us to share His gospel, he could have put us on earth when the church didn't exist. For thousands of years, the truth wasn't on earth and while they had great people, they weren't expected to be missionaries in the same way we are. We are here in the fulness of times, the last dispensation. He has blessed us with the knowledge of His gospel, and he expects us to share it. "Where much is given, much is required." It's so exciting I can hardly stand it. Every member a missionary, and everyone is a child of God. As we work together, everyone will have the opportunity to come to that knowledge. I love this gospel with all my heart. There is nothing in this world quite like serving a mission. It is the best decision I have ever made. I love all of you so much, have a wonderful week!

Here are a few quotes from prophets through the years about member missionary work!

President Joseph Smith (1830–1844)

“After all that has been said, the greatest and most important duty is to preach the Gospel” (Teachings of the Prophet Joseph Smith, sel. Joseph Fielding Smith [1976], 113).

President Howard W. Hunter (1994–1995)

“Surely taking the gospel to every kindred, tongue, and people is the single greatest responsibility we have in mortality. … We have been privileged to be born in these last days, as opposed to some earlier dispensation, to help take the gospel to all the earth”(“Walls of the Mind,” Ensign, Sept. 1990, 10).

President George Albert Smith (1945–1951)

“That is your mission, my brethren and sisters of the Church, that is your responsibility. Freely you have received and our Heavenly Father will expect you freely to share with His other sons and daughters these glorious truths” (Sharing the Gospel with Others, sel. Preston Nibley [1948], 213).
“We will attain our exaltation in the Celestial Kingdom only on the condition that we share with our Father’s other children the blessings of the Gospel of Jesus Christ and observe the commandments that will enrich our lives here and hereafter” (Sharing the Gospel with Others, 190).

President Brigham Young (1847–1877)

“There is neither man or woman in this Church who is not on a mission. That mission will last as long as they live, and it is to do good, to promote righteousness, to teach the principles of truth, and to prevail upon themselves and everybody around them to live those principles that they may obtain eternal life” (Discourses of Brigham Young, sel. John A. Widtsoe [1954], 322).
